DE is hiring a Legal Assistant for a company in Volusia County.
The Legal Assistant provides essential administrative and clerical support to attorneys and legal staff. This role helps ensure the smooth operation of legal services by managing documentation, coordinating schedules, preparing legal correspondence, and assisting in legal research and case preparation.
Draft and format legal documents such as contracts, pleadings, subpoenas, discovery requests, and correspondence
File documents with courts electronically or in person, following applicable procedures
Maintain and organize case files, legal records, and attorney calendars
Schedule meetings, hearings, depositions, and court appearances
Answer phone calls and emails; communicate with clients, court staff, and opposing counsel
Perform legal research and cite-checking under attorney supervision
Assist in trial preparation, including organizing exhibits, briefs, and witness lists
Ensure confidentiality and proper handling of sensitive information
Track deadlines and manage case management systems
Perform general administrative duties (copying, scanning, mailing, data entry)
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred
2+ years of experience in a legal assistant, legal secretary, or paralegal role
Familiarity with legal terminology, court procedures, and document formatting
Preferred Certifications:
Paralegal certificate or legal assistant training is a plus
Notary Public certification may be helpful (depending on jurisdiction)
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Excellent attention to detail and organizational ability
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and legal software (e.g., Clio, MyCase, PracticePanther, or ProLaw)
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Professionalism, discretion, and ability to handle confidential information
Standard office environment with frequent use of computers and legal files
Some lifting of case files or boxes (up to 25 lbs) may be required
Occasional travel to courts or other legal offices may be necessary
