DE is hiring a Fleet Mechanic for a client company in Volusia County.
Under general supervision, the Fleet Mechanic performs skilled diagnostic, maintenance, and repair work on a wide range of vehicles and equipment, including gasoline and diesel engines, heavy-duty trucks, emergency vehicles, construction equipment, and other specialized apparatus. This position ensures the safe and efficient operation of the fleet in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic malfunctions using computerized tools and manual methods.
Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles.
Maintain repair logs, work orders, and inventory records through a fleet management system.
Replace or repair defective parts, including brakes, suspension systems, transmissions, HVAC, and fuel systems.
Conduct road tests of vehicles to ensure issues are resolved and performance standards are met.
Perform welding, fabrication, and bodywork as necessary.
Ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
Respond to emergency breakdowns in the field as needed.
Assist in training lower-level mechanics or apprentices.
Maintain cleanliness and safety of the garage and work areas.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED required.
Completion of a vocational or technical program in automotive or diesel mechanics preferred.
At least 3 years of experience as an automotive or fleet mechanic (municipal or heavy equipment experience preferred).
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid [State] Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), or ability to obtain within [X] months of hire.
Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications preferred
Air Conditioning Certification (EPA 609) preferred.
Extensive knowledge of gasoline, diesel, and alternative fuel engine systems.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools.
Skilled in the use of tools, equipment, and machinery used in vehicle maintenance and repair.
Proficient with computerized fleet maintenance systems.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Work is performed in a garage setting with exposure to noise, chemicals, fumes, grease, and outdoor elements.
Requires standing, bending, lifting (up to 75 lbs), and working in confined or elevated spaces.
Must be available for on-call duty, emergency response, and occasional overtime.
